HOW TO DETECT BLURRED VISION
Blurry Vision causes some vision problems like Myopia, Hyperopia, Astigmatism, etc…Also, blurry vision will cause some serious eye problems if left untreated. In the previous blog post, we had written about the gist of factors that could cause blurry vision. In this post, we have set out to explain the methods used by ophthalmologists to detect blurred vision.
You will be asked to rest your chin on a resting pad. Once your head is rightly positioned, the doctor shall look at the different parts of your eye using a machine to focus on them. On noticing every part in detail, the doctor shall come to know about the functioning of the parts and problems, if any.
First, anaesthetic eye drops are administered to the surface of the eye to make it numb. Next, an eye drop called Fluorescein is administered. Apart from measuring intraocular pressure, fluorescein highlights anything unusual on the surface of the cornea, when seen under blue light.
In this method, you will be asked to read the Snellen chart through a device called refractor. Depending on the ease with which you read out the chart, the doctor shall prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses.
As mentioned before, fluorescein is also used to measure intraocular pressure. After the administration of fluorescein, the doctor shall use a device called Tonometer which is appended to the slit lamp, to measure the intraocular pressure. With your eyes kept wide open, the tonometer shall measure the eye pressure from the surface of the eyes.
A thorough examination of the retina or fundus is essential to complete a comprehensive eye examination. Only then can conditions like Central Serous Retinopathy, diabetic retinopathy and Age-related Macular Degeneration be detected and treated.
